Calixto Garcia Monumental Complex

The Calixto Garcia Monumentary Complex, made up of the Plaza de la Revolución, the Mausoleum and the Bosque de los Héroes, is located on XX Anniversary and Jorge Dimitrov Avenues, in the City of Holguin; It constitutes a complex of extraordinary historical, political, cultural and social significance for Cuba.

The Plaza de La Revolución is a tribute to Major General Calixto Garcia, hero of the three wars, who was Lieutenant General after the death of Antonio Maceo and brilliant military strategist, author of the letter of protest to the North American General Shaffer, which became a symbol of Cuban nationality.

The Plaza de La Revolución Calixto Garcia occupies an area of 50,000 square meters, with a parade route 500 meters long. The complex is made up of a frieze with allegorical reliefs of the struggle of the people of Cuba throughout its history for independence and freedom, and in its lower middle part, the mausoleum where his remains were deposited in 1980.

Around the Calixto Garcia Mausoleum in the Calixto Garcia Monument Complex, seventeen palms were planted, which together with it, symbolize the eighteen generals of Holguin who fought in the three wars of independence of Cuba.

The Forest of Heroes, belonging to the Calixto Garcia Monument Complex, is an area of approximately 120,000 square meters, reforested with Cuban plants, where commemorative monuments are inserted that remember the heroes and martyrs who fell in the fight for independence. from Cuba.

In a straight line with the Mausoleum of Major General Calixto Garcia, and located in the area that includes the Forest of Heroes, is the Mausoleum of Lucia Iñiguez Landín, loving mother of the brave Mambí patriot. In 1983, the remains of the distinguished woman from Holguin were deposited here, to rest eternally close to her son.

In the Calixto Garcia Monumentary Complex, political events, patriotic and military activities, events, among others, are held as part of the comprehensive training of our people.

In the protocol rooms of the Calixto Garcia Monument Complex, the ceremony for granting El Hacha de Holguin, the highest recognition to national and foreign personalities, symbol of the province of Holguin, takes place.
