Poor Film Festival

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), the Ministry of Culture and the Governments of Holguin and Gibara, supported by a group of national and international collaborators, have organized The International Festival of Poor Cinema.

Poor Cinema means, above all things, defending the identity, the independence of the filmmaker and the independence of cinematography, especially from Cuba.

It will not be enough to make libertarian and independent cinema in the face of the pressures of the market and its corresponding ideologies; It will not be enough for us to create works of identity, sometimes transgressive and experimental or often within the golden rules of dramaturgy - since it is not about the conflict between metanarrative versus iconoclasm - or for us to drown in the messianic role of precursors.

A Poor Cinema, or invisible, or marginal, or against the current, must be accompanied by a systematic theoretical-critical body that confronts the well-paid cinematographic literature of the elite. For our cinema to achieve presence and corporeality, we would have to find new audiovisual distribution vehicles.

Let's make our small events available to this other cinema, in order to create a distribution alliance of the awarded works here and there in the form of institutionalized and lasting sections.
