Major General Julio Grave de Peralta
Julio Grave de Peralta was born in April 24 of 1834 in Holguin City, a boy that would grow into the Major General in the Cuban Liberator Army Julio Grave de Peralta y Zayas Bazana.
His life was consecrated to the cause of the freedom of Cuba of the colonial Spanish domain and, consequently, he combated for that objective, pledge in which he was accumulating merits for the borrowed services until reaching Major General's military grade, maximum hierarchy of the Liberator Army in Cuba.
A close friendship united this general of Holguin with the president of the Republic in Weapons Carlos Manuel de Cespedes who felt big sympathies for Julio Grave de Peralta, friendship that began to be closest since the commander of Holguin transformed into one of the first ones in responding to the unjustified statement of Demajagua, lift that gave beginning to 10 Years’ War, unchained by Cespedes in October 10 of 1868 in Cuba.
General Julio Grave de Peralta when travels to the foreign where he carries out an arduous work to contribute to the cause of the insurgent hosts in the fields of Cuba, and then he returns in the expedition of "Fanny." The craft arrived to the costs of Cuba for the current municipality of "Frank País", in the county of Holguin, and soon after of the landing Julio Grave de Peralta falls in combat, in a well-known place for Cebollas, during an encounter with Spanish forces in June of 1872.
In Holguin City where Julio Grave de Peralta was born for 173 years ago, two places remember to the valiant Cuban patriot very especially. One is the park that takes his name and where a beautiful sculpture perpetuates his memory and it shows him erect and seizing the liberal sword.
Very near there an elegant construction that dates of the XIX century, where a policlinic works currently, it remembers him with the following inscription: "Here was born Major General Julio Grave de Peralta y Zayas Bazan, April 24 of 1834”.
